Tales From The Crypt(o)

Source: coinmarketcap.com. This is not investment advice.

With the rise of DOGE, ETH, and other coins, it's only natural that gaming crypto would start to grow as well. As big investors like Elon Musk begin to pull away from 'reddit coins' like DOGE, people have begun flocking to smaller altcoins and currency in order to make their short squeeze. Many even believe that crypto could soon become the main tradable item in the world of the stock market in the future. Studies show that this year alone, 1 in 10 Americans invested in crypto, and that number could definitely begin to grow with the rise in popularity.

However, as with anything in life there is a risk to the reward. Crypto, especially smaller cryptos like gaming ones, can be extremely volatile. On some days they may rise over 40% while on others they'll plunge 15-20%. It's a rather new and untouched sector of the crypto world that can yield little in the way of news and information, so be sure to proceed with caution when exploring these new crypto options.

GAMING LITIGATION

California Sues Activision Blizzard

Activision Blizzard Sued by California for Alleged Widespread Discrimination and Harassment
Source: State of California

Activision Blizzard, the company responsible for popular games such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch and Call of Duty, is being sued by the State of California. The California Department of Fair Employment is following a lawsuit citing sexual harassment, unequal pay, and retaliation.

The state agency conducted a two year investigation. They found that Activision Blizzard discriminated against female employees in regards to employment, compensation, assignment, promotion and termination. The report follows the notion that when this was reported to the leadership team they failed to take any measures to prevent this kind of behavior. With women making at least 20% of the workforce, they report feeling as if they face a “frat boy workplace culture.” There were numerous kinds of instances where the men would engage in inappropriate behavior towards the female employees. Women also reported they were also held back from promotion because of possibly becoming pregnant and being kicked out of lactation rooms for meetings. Activision Blizzard responding by saying that they “strive to foster a workplace that offers inclusivity for everyone” and “the picture the DFEH paints is not the Blizzard workplace of today”

Discrimination, especially against women, in this industry is an issue that have been getting more attention lately. Last year, Ubisoft faced similar allegations. The entire case report in all its legalese can be read as well to see all the details. These conversations need to continue to happen and changes have to be made to continue to create a more successful industry.

UPCOMING RELEASES

That's So Random

Source: EA

If you're a fan of Tim Burton, we may just have a great game for you. Lost in Random is an upcoming indie adventure game by Zoink Games, the developers who also created Fe. The art style is reminiscent of the Nightmare Before Christmas movies, and has a very whimsical sort of aura to it. It's best described as dark and creepy, but somehow still cute. The musical score in their current trailer is already something to die for.

Speaking of die, you'll have a small dice companion that walks along with you throughout your journey, helping you every step of the way. Follow the life of Even, a young girl who is in search of her long lost sister Odd. Odd has been abducted by an evil queen, and it's up to you to get her back. Along with that evil queen boss, you'll also run into a wide array of creepy crawly monsters to fight, odd NPC's to talk to, and of course, weapons and armor to aid you on your journey.

The game has a set release date of September 8th, 2021.
