With your help and support (yes, we are talking to you Quick Droppers), we will take the gaming industry to Rainbow Road and win the Special Cup!
Our newsletter will be Monday-Saturday (Sunday X-clusive launching later this year). And yes, there will be hidden easter eggs on occasion. Solve them and you will win prizes!
- Monday - Wednesday will be our standard newsletter
- Thursday is throwback, RIP
- Friday we will feature content creators (tweet or DM us for ideas on who to cover!)
- Saturday we will spotlight gaming companies & Esports organizations
Our ask is to please continue to help us grow through providing feedback, sharing ideas, engaging with us on Twitter & Discord, and most of all don't let your friends be the weak link on the squad. Help lift them up by getting them signed up for the Daily Drop! We'll handle the rest.
What game best describes 2020... We thought none other than Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout. The game tests your patience, finger agility, and luck! Fall Guys took the industry by storm last year through it’s 60 player competitive, yet goofy, gameplay.
We imagine many of you have either watched or played the game, but for those that haven’t, you are in for a treat. The goal of Fall Guys is to continue to qualify through subsequent rounds by beating your opponents in a series of mini games. The final round has a few players who compete for the Crown!
Did you say Quick Drop Fall Guys Tournament - what!?
We recommend jumping into this battle royale with your customized jelly bean looking character, so much so that we are going to sponsor a Quick Drop Fall Guys tournament in the coming months. Keep a lookout on how to qualify!
While some of us roll out of bed looking fabulous, the Quick Drop Squad needs all of the help we can get. We want to cover one of the best webcams on the market to help you look, well umm presentable while streaming.
It's important to assess webcams on 3 main specs (excludes price):
- Pixels (e.g. 1080p)
- FPS - frames per second (e.g. 60)
- dFoV - diagonal field of view (e.g. 78°)
The AVermedia PW513, in our opinion, is one of the best webcams PERIOD. While it has a hefty price of $250, it offers all of the bells and whistles. Users can stream in either 4K with 30 fps or 1080p with 60 fps. It doesn’t stop there though, the PW513 has a 94° dFoV!
For content creators on a budget, Logitech C920 is a great webcam to start your streaming career (1080p, 30 fps, 78° dFoV)! Shout out to our soon to be friend, Harris Heller, who made a great video to showcase the Avermedia PW513 and other webcams - YT Link
The Rainbow Six 2020 Korean Open Winter - Tournament, hosted by Ubisoft, finished at the tail end of January. Eight teams battled it out in a round-robin format.
We thought the final would be Talon vs GC Busan Spear (GBS), who both went undefeated during the regular season. Winter, however, had other plans. Cloud9, who placed 4th during the regular season, swept Talon in the semi-finals to make it to the final match. The other semi-finalists consisted of GBS vs OhHamMa, and to no surprise GBS took care of business and made it to the finals. This is when things got interesting...
The former League of Legends (LoL) organization who won the World Championship - DWG KIA (formerly known as DAMWON Gaming), acquired and signed 4 out of the 5 GBS players and their coaches. What this meant was the stakes were raised and the final match would be Cloud9 vs DWG KIA.
Cloud9 takes advantage of winter to become champions. In a Best-of-Five (Bo5), Cloud9 took down DWG KIA (7-5) on Consulate and then dominated them (7-1) on the second map, Clubhouse. DWG KIA did not go down without a fight and battled it out in Oregon (7-5). Unfortunately, DWG KIA did not have enough to pull off this win and Cloud 9 won the last match bringing the Series final to 3-1.
Quick Drop Squad's take:
It's a good thing we couldn't bet on this tournament, because our bets would have been on Talon to win. Be sure to check in on the events we highlight because we will do giveaways on occasion for those who pick the winner(s)!
We saw exponential growth in the gaming industry in 2020. While we may coin last year the year of falling, in honor of Fall Guys, it was an extraordinary year for gaming. We can see this in terms of recognition, number of users, and financial performance. The pandemic “forced” casual gamers and enthusiasts to spend more time gaming.
Steam hit all time highs! The chart above highlights the growth of the Steam platform, which concurrent users hit multiple highs in 2020. The first all time high was in April when concurrent users broke 23.6mm. While the chart only goes through September, we looked at the data since then and the record was broken yet again, in December at nearly 25mm users! What we do know is records were made to be broken and we are confident Steam will break this record in the near future.
The Quick Drop Squad is beyond excited about the future of this industry. We hope that you enjoyed our first Daily Drop and continue to join us on this Rainbow Road.
