Sugar We're Going Dou-wn Swinging
DouYu ($DOYU) - $DOYU fell today following the news that China antitrust regulators would be blocking its sale to $HUYA. Tencent, who owns shares in both companies, also withdrew their merger application for their antitrust review after being unable to give them sufficient concessions with regards to the two companies. As a result, both companies dropped down about 5%, and $DOYU plummeted just over 16%.
Bilibili ($BILI) - A report from Simply Wall Street has recently discussed whether or not $BILI is currently in a debt overload. It is currently unclear as to whether or not the drop in price is also related to the above news regarding $DOYU, but there is a chance that it could have been caught in the mess of that affair. The company stock has also currently been evaluated as overbought, and does not seem to have the revenue increase to result in a larger high for the stock price.
Nintendo Discusses Improvements to Nintendo Switch Online
The Nintendo online service allows users to do a multitude of things, including playing online multiplayer games, communicating with friends on smartphones, and saving data to their game Cloud. Subscribers of the service will also receive access to a 100+ original NES and SNES games, and Nintendo Eshop discounts. Despite these features, Nintendo Switch Online still has a long way to go to becoming great, especially when its compared to the services of its competitors.
Representative Director and President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, did not comment much on the specific changes made to the service, but he did release this statement:
"We are working on increasing the appeal of the service to make it even more fun and convenient to play with Nintendo Switch."
Furukawa also showed some statistics regarding the Switch Online service, and its installation base. It's mentioned that there were over 26 million Online subscriptions in September of last year, and that total has been continually increasing with more system sales. The Switch online is therefore clearly meeting expectations set by its users, but there will always be room for improvement. With regards to the new OLED Switch model (see article below), it would be in the company's best interest to continue adding more features and items for its users in the future.

Make The Switch... To A New Model
The Switch recently had its 4th birthday, and Nintendo’s most successful console is getting an upgrade. The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) was just announced coming later this year.
The new console is coming with awesome additions. Fans have been expecting a new console from Nintendo for a while. Since they have moved to a hybrid console/handheld model, Nintendo is looking to expand the Switch’s lifespan much longer than a usual console. The Switch is not the strongest performing piece of hardware, so we would expect some upgraded consoles over the years. The new Nintendo Switch, currently named Nintendo Switch OLED Model) will have a larger screen and a built in LAN/Ethernet plug. This is aiming to improve the portable and online functions for the console. There will also be an adjustable stand to allow players to customize their experience better. The new Switch will also come in a white color, which is different from the original and the Lite version. If you have not bought a Switch yet, this would be the best version on the market so far.
Overall, there is no major performance improvements from its predecessors. It is another option in what seems to be an extensive family of Switch consoles. The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will be arriving on October 8th for $350.
GameStop Launches Its Own Discord Server
After months of craziness with the pandemic, the brink of bankruptcy, and the insane stock fiasco, GameStop has decided to try something new: a discord server. The store has also stated it would be changing its business model slightly, as well as recruiting former Amazon executives to help with business. Since the beginning of the year, GameStop has announced a 25% increase in its Q1 profits. The Discord was launched just yesterday and already has thousands of members, multiple channels for games of every kind, and voice chats.
While some are worried that such a large server may result in nothing more than spam and nonsense, others think it's a good move to try and give the store more popularity and better branding. It has been following in the footsteps of multiple other big names in gaming, such as Xbox and Ubisoft, both of whom have Discord servers themselves. Be sure to check out the Discord yourself to see just what the fuss is all about.
